Beware of Suspicious People or Cult-like Organizations
International students are targeted by organizations soliciting you for fraudulent business practices, such as appointment sales, catch sales, or multi-level marketing (pyramid schemes), or by cult-like organizations that ask for your personal information and relentlessly try to recruit you.
You may be approached with offers such as "Would you like to participate in a speech contest?", "We will provide you with a scholarship", or "We will support your Japanese studies". They will ask for your personal information and try to coerce you into participating in events or donating money or goods.
You may find that there are many temptations or traps disguised as great opportunities - please be very careful.
If you sense that something is suspicious or you see a friend falling into a dangerous situation, please do not try to solve the issue on your own, instead, please share your concerns with teachers or staff members. If you see people soliciting or acting suspiciously on campus, please notify the Student Exchange Division, Campus Security, or the TUFS International Residences building managers.
